In a Changing World, Rare Earth Materials Matter

Our dynamic world depends on high-performance magnetic materials, which includes Samarium Cobalt (SmCo), Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), Alnico, among others. Rare earth sourcing is volatile, fragmented, and technically complex. Many industries face challenges with:

  • Uncertain supply chains that delay production
  • Inconsistent material quality that jeopardizes performance
  • Regulatory and geopolitical pressures
  • Limited engineering support to turn raw material into a functional, optimized magnetic component

Permag solves this by integrating engineering, material expertise, and reliable sourcing under one roof. Global supply chains are tightening. The world is demanding more rare earth materials than ever, creating a premium on trusted partners who can support both material supply, advanced engineering and high quality manufacturing.

Permag is North America’s only producer of Samarium Cobalt magnets, delivering reliable, high-performance materials for critical applications.

Our Capabilities, From Raw Material to Final Magnet and Assembly
North American Material Advantage
Permag is the only North American producer of Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets, giving us a unique leading position in the market. Domestic production reduces geopolitical risk, shortens logistics routes, and supports robust, local manufacturing. By controlling the entire SmCo production process, we ensure a stable, predictable supply, tighter quality oversight, and unmatched traceability.
Responsible Raw Material Sourcing
For over 70 years, we have partnered with trusted global suppliers to secure reliable rare earth oxides and alloys. Our supply chain is engineered for continuity and transparency. Whether for multi-year defense contracts, medical device programs, or precision semiconductor systems, we provide documented assurance that raw materials are sourced responsibly and consistently, reducing risk and simplifying compliance.
Refining, Alloying & Powder Production
Materials are refined, separated, and alloyed into precise compositions such as NdFeB, and custom formulations. For Samarium Cobalt, this step is fully controlled domestically, enabling tight quality oversight and repeatability. Our proprietary processes ensure the materials are uniform, stable, and optimized for magnetic orientation, sintering behavior, and long-term performance.
Magnet Manufacturing
Manufacturing is one of our core expertise. At Permag, refined powders become finished magnets through advanced milling, pressing, sintering, precision machining, and coating processes. Every magnet is engineered and manufactured to exact tolerances, with custom surface treatments and magnetic orientation tailored for your application.

We adhere to DFARS sourcing requirements whenever required and ensure full transparency across the material supply chain. Permag’s engineering and quality teams fully understand the mission-critical specifications essential for aerospace and defense systems.

Rare Earth Materials
Neodymium Raw Material
Neodymium (NdFeB)
Permag uses Neodymium across markets where high efficiency, sensitivity, and compact design are essential—such as semiconductor motion systems, medical devices, aerospace sensors, and industrial automation. These magnets enable precise control, high energy density, and excellent responsiveness, making them well-suited for motors, encoders, robotic tools, IVD instruments, and miniature magnetic assemblies.
Samarium Cobalt Raw Material
Samarium Cobalt (SmCo)
Permag is the only North American producer of Samarium Cobalt magnets, giving customers a secure and dependable source of this mission-critical material. SmCo’s exceptional thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and radiation tolerance make it indispensable for aerospace, defense, space, and harsh industrial applications including missile guidance systems, actuators, sensors, satellite control components, and high-temperature motors.
